FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Phillip E. Goldstein, managing partner of Goldstein Lieberman & Company, announces that Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh, Inc is the recipient of this month's Goldstein Lieberman & Company Care's program donation.

The Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares program was developed to assist not-for-profit organizations during the recession. "We saw that businesses were struggling and that their ability to support community services also was suffering," Goldstein explains. Since the official end of the recession, Goldstein Lieberman & Company has continued the program. "This program has become part of our corporate structure. We have learned about our surrounding communities and know that the need in local neighborhoods is great and continues," he adds.

Founded in 1972 by Frederica Warner who, at 92 years old, is still active in the organization, Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh has served over 400,000 meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities throughout the City of Newburgh as well as in the Towns of Newburgh and New Windsor. The not-for-profit 501 C3 receives no government funding. "Those who can afford our services do pay," remarks Carole S. McDermott, president. "But that covers only half of our costs. For the rest we rely on individual and business donations." Open from 8 AM to 1 PM, a head cook and three part time volunteer chefs prepare nutritious meals that are delivered by approximately 20-30 volunteers. Donations and questions should be addressed to Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh, Inc. Mail: P. O. Box 2615, Newburgh, NY 12550.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Phillip E. Goldstein, managing partner of Goldstein Lieberman & Company, LLC the fastest growing certified public accounting and business advisory firm in the region, announces that the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention received the latest Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares donation on May 24th during a check presentation event at the firm's Mahwah headquarters. The $1,000 check brings to $38,500, the total amount contributed to not-for-profits since the program's inception in January of 2009.

"This is a problem has touched so many of us," remarks Mr. Goldstein. "Since the subject is taboo, there's little information available to help prevent suicide or console those who suffer losses," he adds. He and his partners hope their contribution will help disseminate information.

Maria Idoni, Area Coordinator for the Hudson Valley Region Chapter, accepted the check on behalf of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Established two years ago by area mothers who lost children to suicide, the Pougkeepsie-based regional chapter serves 5 counties-Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Putnam and Sullivan. According to Idoni, the organization raises awareness largely through an outreach to area schools. They also provide survivor outreach and bereavement counseling. Funds from Goldstein Lieberman will help further their reach. Funds also will help sponsor a motorcycle fundraiser (Bike Run) for the organization.

The Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares Program was formed to be a lifeline for the region's not-for-profits during the recession and was extended when the company realized the continued need on the local level. "Although some businesses are feeling relief from the recent recession, most are still struggling in today's economy. That is putting not-for-profits who depend on them are in peril," says Goldstein. According to Goldstein, the firm has supported over fifteen not-for-profit groups since 2009.

The donation was made Friday, April 23rd at 3:30 PM at the New Windsor offices of New York Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun. Assemblywoman Calhoun, representing New York’s 96th Assembly District, has demonstrated her support for the organization by promoting it on her website.

Breast Cancer Options provides the only grassroots, non hospital based services for women with breast cancer in the Hudson Valley. The organization stages yearly complimentary medical conferences and is an invaluable source for information on prevention, diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment care. Their slogan “Think Pink Locally” reminds women that the much needed research funds raised by national organizations are not allocated locally and do not cover critical everyday expenses that neighbors in the region may need. Breast Cancer Options works to fill that need.

The Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares Program was formed to be a lifeline for the region’s not-for-profits during the recession and was extended when the company realized the continued need on the local level. “Although some businesses are feeling relief from the recent recession, most are still struggling in today’s economy. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: In recognition of the losses suffered by the family of Haitian-born Josue Coicou, a senior manager of the Goldstein Lieberman & Company, the firm has made a Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares donation on his behalf to the Red Cross Organization’s Haitian relief efforts on Monday, February 1st at 4 PM at the Orange County Government Center in Goshen, New York. A portion of the donation will be earmarked to stay in the Valley to assist Haitian communities in the area who are facing economic and emotional challenges due to the devastating quake. County Executive Edward Diana was present at the event.

Phillip E. Goldstein, Managing Partner of Goldstein Lieberman & Company LLC, announced at the presentation that the firm would be doubling its donations to local charitable organizations throughout the upcoming year. Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares Program was established during the recession to be a lifeline for the region’s not-for-profit organizations as many businesses cut out or cut back on charitable donations. “We saw that many businesses were struggling and that, in turn, put the not-for-profits who depend on their donations in peril,” says Goldstein.

In spite of the recession, Goldstein Lieberman roughly doubled in size during the past year alone. “We felt that we should therefore double our charitable efforts as well,” Goldstein adds. “Businesses must continue to give back to their community at a time when donation dollars really count.”

In 2009, at height of the recession, the Red Cross was forced to close its Goshen office due to lack of funding and donations. “People sometimes believe that the Red Cross itself benefits from disasters on the scale of Hurricane Katrina and the recent earthquake in Haiti,” explains Bonnie Fletcher, director of Community Development for the Red Cross. “In fact, these events deliver a blow to our own infrastructure as we scramble to deliver aid where it is most needed in a hurry,” she says.

“I am glad to see these funds go to an organization that was helping even before this recent disaster,” remarks Mr. Coicou. “The Red Cross has been in Haiti a long time. I know the people of Haiti appreciate its commitment,” he adds. “On a personal note, I would like to express how fortunate I feel to be working at a company that gives back to the community, and beyond, not just one time, but all the time.

MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION IN ORANGE COUNTY RECEIVES GOLDSTEIN LIEBERMAN & COMPANY CARES DONATION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York State Senator John J. Bonacic, joined Phillip E. Goldstein, managing partner and other key members of the Goldstein Lieberman & Company LLC team, as the fastest growing public accounting and business advisory firm in the region made a Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares donation to the Mental Health Association of Orange County. The donation took place at the not-for-profit’s new headquarters on Route 108 in Middletown on September 24th.

“As we have advised clients through the recent recession, we have witnessed the tremendous strain this financial climate had placed on breadwinners and their families,” remarked Mr. Goldstein. Goldstein Lieberman & Company LLC developed a task force--Recession-Expert Accounting Consultant Team (REACT) during the downturn to guide businesses through the tumultuous tides. “We know that many businesses feeling the effects of the recession have cut out or cut back on their donations to not-for-profit groups,” he adds.

That understanding inspired the firm to establish a program of monthly donations (Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares) to area not-for-profit groups. According to Mr. Goldstein, the firm selected Mental Health Association for a donation this month because mental health issues are often not seen and therefore are too often neglected, especially during challenging financial times.

The Mental Health Association has earmarked the donation for Orange County families of individuals with or affected by Autism spectrum who may apply for an annual stipend for parent training and/or purchase of goods/services for the person with an ASD.
