Goldstein Lieberman launched the Goldstein Lieberman Cares program two years ago to assist not-for-profit groups during the recession and to encourage other concerns to follow suit. The program continues today and has helped over 20 organizations with donations and support.

Established two years ago by area mothers who lost children to suicide, the Pougkeepsie-based regional chapter serves 5 counties-Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Putnam and Sullivan. Phillip E. Goldstein, Managing Partner of Goldstein Lieberman & Company LLC, announced at the presentation that the firm would be doubling its donations to local charitable organizations throughout the upcoming year. Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares Program was established during the recession to be a lifeline for the region’s not-for-profit organizations as many businesses cut out or cut back on charitable donations. “We saw that many businesses were struggling and that, in turn, put the not-for-profits who depend on their donations in peril,” says Goldstein.
In spite of the recession, Goldstein Lieberman roughly doubled in size during the past year alone. “We felt that we should therefore double our charitable efforts as well,” Goldstein adds. “Businesses must continue to give back to their community at a time when donation dollars really count.”
In 2009, at height of the recession, the Red Cross was forced to close its Goshen office due to lack of funding and donations. “People sometimes believe that the Red Cross itself benefits from disasters on the scale of Hurricane Katrina and the recent earthquake in Haiti,” explains Bonnie Fletcher, director of Community Development for the Red Cross. “In fact, these events deliver a blow to our own infrastructure as we scramble to deliver aid where it is most needed in a hurry,” she says.
“I am glad to see these funds go to an organization that was helping even before this recent disaster,” remarks Mr. Coicou. “The Red Cross has been in Haiti a long time. I know the people of Haiti appreciate its commitment,” he adds. “On a personal note, I would like to express how fortunate I feel to be working at a company that gives back to the community, and beyond, not just one time, but all the time.

MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION IN ORANGE COUNTY RECEIVES GOLDSTEIN LIEBERMAN & COMPANY CARES DONATION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York State Senator John J. Bonacic, joined Phillip E. Goldstein, managing partner and other key members of the Goldstein Lieberman & Company LLC team, as the fastest growing public accounting and business advisory firm in the region made a Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares donation to the Mental Health Association of Orange County. The donation took place at the not-for-profit’s new headquarters on Route 108 in Middletown on September 24th.
“As we have advised clients through the recent recession, we have witnessed the tremendous strain this financial climate had placed on breadwinners and their families,” remarked Mr. Goldstein. Goldstein Lieberman & Company LLC developed a task force--Recession-Expert Accounting Consultant Team (REACT) during the downturn to guide businesses through the tumultuous tides. “We know that many businesses feeling the effects of the recession have cut out or cut back on their donations to not-for-profit groups,” he adds.
That understanding inspired the firm to establish a program of monthly donations (Goldstein Lieberman & Company Cares) to area not-for-profit groups. According to Mr. Goldstein, the firm selected Mental Health Association for a donation this month because mental health issues are often not seen and therefore are too often neglected, especially during challenging financial times.
The Mental Health Association has earmarked the donation for Orange County families of individuals with or affected by Autism spectrum who may apply for an annual stipend for parent training and/or purchase of goods/services for the person with an ASD.
